Sir James Allen left for the south last jiidit, to return to-duy week; He will visit Christchurch and Dunedin, Tapanui, Moa Flat, Beaumont, and Lawrence in the course of his tour.

The Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Minister of Lands, is leaving this week on a, visit to the Taupo, Rotorua, and Bay of Plenty districts. He will go first. to Putaruru, then to Taupo, ana across to Napier.' From there he will go to Wairoa and Gisborne, and north to Opotiki, and so across the Bay of Plenty district to Rotorua. The travelling will be arduous, nud Mr. Guthrie will be absent from Wellington for somii few dayb.

Surgeon-General R. S. F. Henderson, Director-General of Medical Service's, left last night for Dunedin. He is expected to. return to Wellington on Friday.

Colonel N. P. Adams, late Commandant at Featherston Camp, left for Auckland yesterday en route to England. He was accompanied by Mrs. Adams. He expects to be away from New Zealand for about two years, and has planned to spend a part of his time studying administrative and agricultural methods in the United States.

Major A, A. Corrigan, Group Commander, No. o Group (Wellington City and Suburbs), who has resigned from the Dafence Department, finally handed over his duties to his successor, Captain W. M. 8011, New Zealand Staff Corps, last week. Major Corrigan will proceed to England on a business v visit immediately, sailing from Auckland by the Makura early this month. He will return .to New Zealand in five or six months' time.

The death occurred at ChristcbuTch yesterday of Mrs. Keeves, 'relict of the late Hon. William Beeves, and mother of 'the Hon. W. P. Reeves, at ono time Agent-General for New Zealand in London.—Press Assn.

Captain A. C. V. Hay, who has been on active service in Mesopotamia, is shortly returning to New Zealand. Ho was station manager for Mr. A. C. Cooper, Brookland, Meta'hunga, before going away.

A Press Association message from Gore states that Mr. John Latham, a much-respected citizen, and the secretary of the Racing and Trotting Clubs and the A. and P. Association, died yesterday afternoon.

Captain M. R, Reed has returned to New Zealand from active service. Before going into camp Captain Reed was a law clerk in the firm of Messrs. Reed, Baillie, and Tollie, of Auckland.

Captain and Mrs. Coffin, who have been associated with the Vivian Street Citadel Salvation Army Corps for the past six years, are being transferred to Foxton. Wiih Captain Goffin as bandmaster the Citadel Band has made great strides,

It is stated that Colonel (Dr.) M'Gavin, of Wellington, who has been on active service since the first year of war, may succeed Surgeon-General Henderson, as Director of Military Medical Services in Nov Zealand. Colonel M'Gavin is expected to return to New Zealand shortly. Mr. John FitzGernld, who has been clerk of the court at Nelson for the past five vears, has been appointed district manager of the Public Trust for Marlborough, with headquarters <\t Blenheim. Mr. FitzGerald has been connected with (ho Justice Department for twenty-two years, ami has been stationed at \\oliii!"ton, Wanganui, Oamaru, Lyttellon, Whaiisarei, Pahifttna, Athlmrtoii, and Nelson. In addition to his duties as clerk of the court he has filled a number of other offices in Nelson, including that of Registrar of Electors and Returning Officer. During the war period Mr. FitzGerald rendered valuable assistance in connection with various patriotic functions.

Mrs. K. Lomas, Wadcstown, has; received advico that her son, Private J\ C. Lomas, who has been away just on four years, is expected to return by the Horpvafca-

Johnson, who has been senior typist for The Dominion for the last two years, was met by her confreres, and presented with a leather vanity case and a photograph album. In making the presentation, the manager (Mr. A. Sando) spoko highly of Miss Johnson's qualifications, and his remarks were cordially endorsed by the advertising manager (Mr. E, B. Bell), on behalf of the der partmental heads.

News has been reoeived by Mr. ,T. D. Anderson, of Wellington, of the death in London of his brother; Mr. Gilbert Anderson, of the' well-known meat exporting firnr of Messrs. Gilbert Anderson and Co.. London, and formerly managing dlrecto of the Chrlstchuroh Meat Company, at the age of 65 years. The late Mr. Anderson leaves a widow, who was a member of the well-known Bullen family, of Kaikoura, a daughter, and two sons.'both of whom are on active service." He was born in the Shetland Islands, and came out to New Zealand with! his parents in 1864.

/ Master M. J. Burns, son of Mr. A. M. Burns, sub-editor of the Christohurch "Press." has gained the distinction of being dux of Christ's College, Christchurch. He also gained the Balfour Prize.

Lieutenant John Dudley, formerly Government Auditor for Nelson, has died from pneumonia at the front. Ho went into camp with the Seventh Reinforcemeutc as a 'gunner, and after a long period of ootive service' gained his commission. Soma years ago he was a prominent member of the Star Boating Cluh. Wellington.

Advice lias been received by Base- Records office that 17,818 Rifleman William Pollock, an undischarged soldier, died at Victoria Ward at 1 p.m. on February 28. .Deceased was 46 years of _ age and f<*se, his, next-of-kin being his sister, Mips H. Pollock, care H. Pollock, Coa(> bridge, Scotland.

Mr. H. Gerard, who for some yeara has been assistant private secretary to the Minister of Defence (Sir James Allen), has been appointed secretary to the Administrator of Samoa, and trill leave New Zealand shortly to take up his new position.
