FIRE BRIGADE'S CONFERENCE

Invercargill, March 3. The fortieth annual conference of the Fire Brigades' Association opened today. The president (Mr. \V. Cooper) referred to the splendid part the firemen had played in the war, and urged them to see Hint the widows and families of those who had lost their lives were well provided for. The Hon. J. A. Hanan hoped that some better financial provision for brigades would be established by Parliament.
The Fire Brigades' Executive was inistruclcd to appoint a deputation to wait on the Minister of Internal Affairs in regard lo the moro equitable distribution of tho cost of maintenance of tho brigades. The delegates took an official part in the welcome to a draft of returning soldiers, and later, taking advantage of tho glorious weather, took part in bowling and tennis competitions arranged for them. The Wellington Municipal Brigade waa ■ ©spelled for altering the medals.
