KING'S THEATRE. Norma Talmadge is featured in. "By llight of Purchase," a.Select feature drama, screening tliis week at the King's Theatre. .The'story js finely put together, and full of dramatic situations. The whole production is en a gorgeous scale, and the dresses are especially fine. A very fine repertoire of music is rendered by the King's Grand' .Orchestra, also vocal items by Miss Eileen Driscoll. "DESERT GOliD-'-KACING- DHAMA AT THE KING'S. Mr. E. J. Carroll, who has been responsible for many big attractions in t|ie picture world being shown throughout New ..Zealand, has made arrangements to screen his latest acquisition, entitled "Desert Gold" at the King's Theatre for one week, commencing next Saturday at the matinee. "Desert Gold," which is described as a "six-reel gallop that goes like the wind from barrier to winning post," is a recent drama, and is said to contain a thrill in each of the six reels. The picture was produced by Mr. Beaumont Smith, and, it is stated, has been most capably handled, the Rreutost attention being paid to the minutest details. Sir. Beaumont Smith went even so far as to make arrangements with M'r.'T. H. Lowry for his wonderful racing' mare "Desert Gold" to appear right throughout the picture, ns ;iko do the well-known jockeys W. E. Jl'Lachlan, Ken liracken, and-.T. O'Shea. Neck-to-neck flat races, horses toppling one over the- other over hurdles, and throwing their riders yards away, a sensational race- between a motor arid a train through the mountains to Katoomba, fiivm fights on horseback in the desert, hurling a man over Lcura falls, a thrilling aeroplane flight from Eichmond to Randwiok racecoifee, an attempt to destroy "Desert Gold" on tjie training-track by tying an invisible wire across,; are just a few* of the sensations crowded ■ into Beaumopt Smith's superfeature. The plan is now open at the Bristol.
EVERYBODr'S THEATRE. A film story of pleasing originality entitled "Her Decision" is screening this week at Everyhody's Theatre. It is a Triangle.production, and features Gloria Swanson, who has como well to the fore of late in the "movie" world. J. Barney Sherry and Dorrele Moss also have iinpbrtaut roles. ■ It is a well-acted and splendidly-produced story. Included in some excellent supporting- pictures is a side-splitting Triangle comedy. EMPRESS THBATJJE. Madge Kennedy, the ' brilliant young actress in the fascinating Goldwyn play, "The Danger Game," is proving very popular at the Empress Theatre, , and shows what «i splendid artist she is in emotional work. The picture is one of love and mystery, laughter and • tears, and holds, the interest right through. The latest topical gazette and a comedy with Fatty Arbuckle aro included in the supports. ■PIGMAN COMEDY SEASON. , The box plans for the Figmnn comedy season open at the Bristol Piano Depot this morning. Mr.Figman and.his. leading lady. Miss Lolita Eobertson, were both specially engaged,- along with other members of .their company, to play a starring tour of Australia nnd New Zealand under the direction of J. C. Williamson; ltd.; l>y Mr. George Tallis, on his recent visit to America, flml will commence their Wellington Benson at the Grand Opera House on Saturday evening next with the international comedy success,'"Nothing But the Truth." The oponing scene is laid in a. stockbroker's office; where business is in progress in the brisk "stand'-and-deliver" manner typical of .America.
