It dismissed the regular troops and replaced them with Popular Guards. The Council voted ii pension of 10,000 marks to Eisner's widow; The -'authorities have seized lists of.extremists; containing tho names of a large number of persons to be assassinated, and. tho names of twenty hostages to Iμ taken from tho ranks of the aristocracy. The new man of the hour in Munich is Dr. Mas Levien, a doctor of geology, who has returned from Kussia and is preaching the Spartacus creed of war against the middle classes. He is regarded aa the new Soviet leader. • • Tlie Munich correspondent..- of thQ "Daily Express" interviewed Dr. Le-yien* The latter said that the Soviets demanded tho arming of all the workers, and also tlie abdication of Commander Durr, tho Military Chief of the Republican Uovernment. He added that the Spavvaci'nians were going to light for the esteb* * lishment of Eisner's ideal Soviet republic/ Levien asserted that Huuioh students, wearing masks, had secretly .assembled in the university, and decided to assassinate him; but he had taken fifty a.'istecratic hostages. The correspondent states that there was 'extreme tension on Sunday. The rival factions, well armed, jostled in the streets; but the expected clash never came. Thousands of Bolsheviks attended meetings at which oratore urged the crowds to follow Levien to a, proletariat victory. Meanwhile Levien, remained hidden for fear of assassination.. The correspondent met' Levien'e sweet*' . heart, who said she was getting Levien a food, He had not eaten for two days, and dared not go out. But Levien appeared an hour later with an armed guard mounted on a truck, with hla sweetheart, and cried, "Victory is ours. Tho workers will be armed to-morrow,; and the Soviet Congress will assemble on.' Tuesday." A hushed pause ensued. .Levien .re-; sunied: "I stand in Eisner's place.. Where is my assabsin?" There was no, reply, and Levien departed. Professor Bonn, Premier, said that the Soviet revolution was a bluff. "Levien will go no further than Eisner, ami Eisner will be buried on Wednesday. ■ He said that Eisner was proceeding to i the Landtag to tender his resignation when he was murdered. His murder seemed well to all Socialists, but the Spartacusians would not compromise, "Germany to-dny is worn out, and anything may happen. Levion is the most dangerous man since Liebknecht died. The correspondent later saw Durr, who said that he would not arm the workers, nor would'he abdicate. Two hundred Spartacusian rioters destroyed the air shaft of a mme and imprisoned 600 miners, who cannot be liberated for a fortnight.
