WOOL SHED BURNED
LARGE QUANTITY OF PRODUCE DESTROYED. By Telegraph—Preen Association. ■ D'unedin, February 25. A wool shed and offices at Port Chalmers belonging to Messrs. John Mill and Co. were destroyed by fire to-day, lhe shed contained a considerable quantity of flax, tow and canned meat ready, for export, besides a dumping plant, boilere and engines.' There was only a small quantity of wool in store, owing to se?. eral thousand bales Laving been shipped by the Verdun during the past few days. 'The fire started during the lunch hour, commencing behind the offices. The water supply from the main could not cope with the blaze, and a hose from the*; tug Plucky was requisitioned, but without "Mr! Mill left,for the north this mornShortly before 1 p.m., a telephone mes« sage was sent to the Dunedin Fire Brigade asking for assistance, but owing to the distance and acting under instructions from the Fire Board the request was refused. ' About 200 bales of vool, ownod by the Imperial Government, and stored by Messrs. Donald, Reid and Co. and Wright, Stephenson and Co., were ae. stroyed. The insurances on the contents were distributed amongst the various offices, and the exact amounts are not available. The building was insured for .£I2OO in the Commercial Uiiion Office, and for j>3oo in the Standard Office. :
