FATAL MOTOR-CAR ACCIDENT

COLONEL M'CEEDIE KILLED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, February 25. • A sad motor-car accident happened yesterday, Colonel Matthew M'Credic buing killed. He paid u visit to Morere to attend the stock sales, and was returning to his station at Mahia by motor. The car was driven by Mr. bowen, of Paritu. The other occupants were Mrs. Gower and Miss Gowcr. Upon reaching a corner of the road the party met a five-horse wagon, and, to avoid a collision, Mr. Bowen swerved the car, and it. capsized over a bank. The occupants were pinned under the car, and when extricated it wae found that Colone.l M'Credie was dead. The other "occupants were not seriously hurt. ' „ [Colonel M'Credie, V.D., .was formerly a well-Scnown resident lof Wellington. Between thirty and forty years ago he held a, responsible position in the Treasury, and'subsequently was in business on Lambton Quay as an ironmonger. Afterwards he settled in Poverty Bay. In the earlier days here he was a most enthusiastic volunteer, and for several years he was in command of the D Battery of artillery. He was placed on the retired list on August 17, 1908.1
