■ At a meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the Farmers' Union, held 011 Saturday, Mr. H. Vile was elected, as delegate to tlio sub-provincial executive. The comment of Mr. Justice Chapman ou the fact that XI a day seemed to be quite an ordinary wage for a working man in the Manawatu district, has, according to- a Palmerston paper, elicited the information that iu numerous cases tiie earnings of even unskilled labour, is considerably more. Recently a pnddocker at a flaxinill drew tho nico little sum of JioG7 for 33 weeks' work, which works out at ,82 lis. per day, it there were 110 work on Sundays. Between 7 and 8 o'clock on Sunday night Councillor Spooner backed his car into tho lane between the railway lino and Cole's Buildings while ho went inside to participate in a theosophical meeting. He locked the. automatic starter and put tho key in his pocket. He was astonished on coming out to find that the car had disappeared. After a connection, of over 11 years with tho Boys' Training Farm at Wei'|iroa, Mr. and Mrs. AVilliams liavo left for Auckland, where Mr. Williams has accepted a position with the special schools 'branch of the Education Department. Prior to their departure, Mr. and Mrs. Williams were made a presentation, on- behalf of the farm, by tne manager, Mr. Marry-aft, who expressed regret that two such valued members of tne staff ! were leaving, but wished them all liappiand prosperity in the north. - During tho past two years .-C225 has been raised by the sale of flowers at tho Otaki Railway Station for Red Cross purposes. In all? a total of over .£4OO has been raised since the beginning of tho war by the" sale of flowers.
