Two deaths from influenza occurred during the week-end. The Government has announced that unless there is evidence that tho epidemic is' spreading the restrictions will bs' removed within a week. Some idea of the rigour of the Australian quarantine regulations at present in force as a precautionary blockade against a general outbreak of influenza mnv be gained from the following: No person shall travel by sea from any port or place in any other State unless fie ¥as, during' the three days immediately preceding the date of his departure by sea, submitted to medical inspection by a quarantine officer or by a medical practitioner authorised for that purp<*«j on two occasions, not less than 48 notirfl aparti lie has, within 24 houra before Jus ' departure by aea, mad© a. declnration to the effect that he (or she) hafl not been in contact with any case of influenza during the seven days immediately preceding the date of signature; lie lias, within 24 hours before his departure by sea, but . subsequently to the making, ol the deolaTation, received, an official permit, in writing, for himself and the memMrs of his family under the age of fifteen years; he has submitted to suoft other medical inspection as may be reouirkd. Any person intending to travel to Tasmaniaii ports, other than Hobart, shall perform quarantine at the quaiantine station at Point Nepean, at his own expense, for such period as may be required, subject to his receiving a™ o ™? for admission to such quarantine station from a quarantine officer, or from an officer authorised for the pur pose. Every person travelling by. sea shall, upon d mand by a quarantine officer, 01 by an i officer authofised for the purpose, produce the permit granted to him in respect of the voyage ,on which he is then en--8 Every person who arrives at any port or place in any Statf from any port or place in any other State, by sea shall remain subject to quarantine, and to quarantine surveillance, and shall be subject to the provisions of the Quarantine Regulations, 1917 (Statutory Rules, 1917, No. 112), relating to quarantine survMllnnce. Any person may be reared by any officer, appointed under the, Q™}™tine Act to verify in writing any . statement as to his. liability toi convey infection or as to his movements and past or nrosnective addresses. Any person committing a breach of any of these regulations shall be liable on summary conviction to a, penalty not exceeding Aw.
