TRENTHAM CAMP

COUBSES OP INSTRUCTION,

The first course of instruction for. Territorial and Cadet officers ana non-com-missioned officers was completed at Trentham Camp at the end of last week, and a second course is now in progress. Trentham Camp, as announced some tn&e ago, is to be used in part for the lnil ruction of members of the Territorial and Cadet forces, under Expeditionary Force instructors. The chief instructors are: B. Henderson, M.C., and h. Purdon, both of the New Zealand Staff Corps; infantry, Captain A. Cheater; physical training, Captain A. W. Brocks/ M.C., Army Gymnastic Staff. ■ The first course, extending over a period of three weeks, was attended by some forty officers and n.c.o.'s .of the Territorial and Cadet forces, drawn from all parts of the Dominion, Cadets, n.c.o.'s predominating.. The pupils worked hard," and in it very short space of time attained a state of proficiency which would have done credit to even a reinforcement n.co. class which had undergone a similar length of training. This applied particularly to the Cadet n.c.o.'s, from 14 to 18 years of age, who wore very keen, and were quick to learn. The majority attended the infantry and physical training courses, and emerged from them much improved in knowledge, health, and experience. During last week the classes.were inspected bv Mnjor-Gencral Sir Alfred Robin. General Officer Commanding the Forces; Colonel C. M. Gibbon, 1.G.5., Chief of the General Staff; LieutenantColonel J. L. Sloeman, 1.G.5., Director of Military Training; and Colonel B. Logan, C.8., Administrator of Samoa, who was on a visit to Wellington. The officers and n.c.o.'s, who were hard at work undergoing their instructions, were subjected to various tests, and in _ every instance acquitted themselves creditably. General Robin congratulated them upon the progress they had made in so short a time.
