RIFLE SHOOTING

GROUP MEETING'IN MARCH. In connection with the proposal 'to hold iv group rifle meeting, a very large gathering of officers of the No. 5 Group , was held in tile • Garrison Hall some days.ago. Captain' W. M. Bell, officer commanding the group, presiding. A draft programme prepared by district headquarters was submitted, and last evening a committee meeting was held, at which the project was again considered. A liberal programme was decided upon. It was also resolved that the. group rifle meeting should be held'at Trentham 011 Saturday, March 22. Staft-Sergeant-Major J. King was appointed hon. secretary, and the following wera. deputed to act as the committee to organise the gathering:—Captain W. M. Bell, Major 1 Dunne, Captain Davis, Lieutenants Thomson, Abel. Smith, Croker, Downes, and Mr. Judd, and the Bide Club's Association. 'Donations were reported to have been received from the following.—Colonels G. P. 0. Campbell, W. G. Duthie, J. J. Esson, and Major Simms, £2 2s. each; British General Electric Company, and Smith and Smith, XI Is. eacfi; Mr. C. i\'. Batten, 10s. Gd.; and Mr. Muiholland, ss. Several trophies had also been offered, including a challenge belt, ehal■lenge'shield, ami challenge teams' cup. The committee derided to canvass the city for further donations and trophies. The programme for the meeting includes a number of matches, especially catering for senior cadets. The Karon Defence Eifle Club will . firo a match for the Johnston Memorial Cup this afternoon, at ranges of 200. 500, and 600 yards. -Trophies have also been r donated for the match. The Old Navals Defence Eifle Club will continue the club's competition this afternoon 011 the Miramar range. Tho distances will be 200, 500, and 600 yards.
