TRENTHAM CAMP

NEW- HOSPITAL ARRANGEMENTS.' A considerable amount of work if proceeding at Trentham Camp, which is being prepared for the reception of invalided eoldiers. The medical authorities are providing accommodation for 500 men, and they will extend it if the need arises. The scheme does not involve the evacuation of tho hospitals at present used by the Defence Department. Trentham will be both a primary and a secondary orthopaedic hospital. It will irecoive some men direct from the returning transports and other mon whose treatment has begun in hospitals in various parts of New Zealand. The number of invalided men in the hands of tho Department will 'shrink gradually after the troops have all returned to New Zealand, and the evacuation of hospitals will be arranged then in accordance with requirements. In the meantime .the Department will make an effort to clear gome hospital wards that are urgently required by the civilian anthorities. *

The Wellington Hospital Board is anxious to resume control of the Victoria Ward for civilian purposes as coon as possible. The Defence authorities may be able to evacuate this ward in the not distant future, but they are not yet ablo to fix a date definitely. The'Lowry Bay Hospital is likely to be vacated when Trentham Camp has been prepared fully for occupation as s a hospital. The Miramar Hospital, which is handy to the city, is to be retained. ■ ■■
