Jleßsrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report having held their annual ewo fair in the Martinborough saleyards on Thursday last, when they offered a heavy yarding of sheep on account of Messrs. John St'Leod, N. M'Leod, E. M'Leod, John M'Master, Henry H'Master, Stanley M'Laren. John Martin, jun., E. 0. Holmes, D. Boss, 0. O. Evans,' Wall and M'Leod. and other clients, before a large attendance of buyers. There was a keen de-mand-for ewes of good quality, and a decided improvement in the tono of the market was quickly apparent,, as shown by the prices obtained, viz.4-year ewes, 28s. to 305.; 2-tooth ewes. 30s. 4d. to 30s. 9d.; 4-tooth «weß to 325. fid.; fi-tooth ewes, 265. 6d. to 285.; s.m.. ewes, to 24b. ; cull -2-tooth. ewes, to • 255.; cull aged ewes, to 195.; 4-tooth wethers,' 275. fid.i. to' 285.; 2tooth wethers, 245. to 265. 3d.'
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.. Ltd., report: Wo hold our usual weekly Bale at Masterton on Wednesday, when wo had a good entry of sheep.' ' WOOL, SKINS, AND HIDES. Messrs. Lovin and Co., Ltd., report:— We offered a large catalogue of hides yesterday. Heavy, ox, yearlings, and kips were id. dearer. Other descriptions -were on a par with last sale rates. Competition from both exporters and tanners was extremely keen, and prices showed an' advance of a half-oenny pi-r lb. for cow hide, and Jd. tq 'Id. per lb. for ox hides. We secured tho extreme .price., of .14} d.:. per.'lb. ;for two lines- of heavy ox in prime condition'.; Calfskins' ■were in good domand at advanced prices. Tallow was entirely neglected,
