NGAHAURANGA MEAT WORKS
MEN DEMAND INCREASES OP PAT.
There was a little trouble with the slaughtermen at the Wellington .Meat Export Works at Ngahauranga, yesterday. Some time ago the men demanded an increase in killing rates, so that their earnings, might be raised to those of the butchers at the Company's new works near Marton, at Kakariki. The works at Kakariki-are isolated, and it was decided to offer extra payment in order to induce men to go there. The general labourers at the works also asfced for a readjustment of conditions to provide that all work done before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m. should be deemed to be overtime, and be paid for as such.
Neither of the demands have been conceded bj v the company, and the men o*<f not start work at the usual tiviie. yesterday. A meeting of the. men was held in the morning,' aud as a result it was decided to commence work pending further negotiations. Work was resumed accordingly.
