There is a good supporting programme. THE COMPETITIONS. An event of interest to lovers of tho vocal, musical, and literary art is tho opening of the competitions promoted by tho- Wellington Competitions Society in the Town Hall to-day. Much public interest has been evoked in. these contests, which can be made of great educational value, besides being a refining and up- .. lifting influence by inculcating a love of music and literature in the rising generation. As there' are 1535 competitors from all parts of the Dominion, tho contests should not lack interest, and may be the means of discovering latent • talent • worth bringing out.
