JANUARY REVENUE RETURNS . STATEMENT BY MR. MYERS Tho Hon. Arthur Myers, Acting-Miuis-ter of Finance, has'furnished tho following particulars relating to the revenue for tho month of January, 1919, as compared with tho same nionlh last year; the .years ended January 31, 1919, and 1918,' respectively; also particulars of reveuuo and expenditure for the ten months ending January this year, compared with the similar period for 1918. Commenting on the figures Mr. Myers remarked that it would be noticed that the revenue for the month of January, 1919, shows a considerable reduction over tha corresponding month last' year, amounting to ,£383,100. The. total revenuo for the ten months ending January 31, 1919, however, shows a net increase of .£1,168,171 over the corresponding ten months of last year. The expenditure for tho ten mouths ended January, 1919, shows an increase of .£2,657,693 in excess of tho expenditure for the ten months ended January, 1018. The increases in expenditure apply to most Departments, but the chief increase, of course, comes under the heading of interest and sinking: fund, pensions,' , etc. . "The expenditure up to date for rue year 1918-19," continued the Minister, "shows an excess over the revenue_for the same period amounting to .£1,091,075. ilns difference will be more than made good when the income tax for the year is collected. The Public Works fund shows a decrease in expenditure of .£82,281 tor this year, as compared with the similar period of last year."
