A Pohangiiif. Mr. M'Cullock, has received a letter from Commander L. C. Woollcombe, of 11.M.5. .Malaya, in which the writer relurns thanks on behalf of Ihe ship's company for the generous donation of £1!)0, which had been collected in the Pohangina district. The commander staled that it was deeply appreciated'by the men, while the oflicers felt it was ii link wilh an old mess male. Further, he said that a committee had I/tii set up lo decide on the best way to use the money. Mr. M'.Murrny, who resigned from the Poxton School Committee us a protest against Ihe decision lo purchase a sec-ond-hand Herman-made piano, called upon the chairman of the committee (Mr. J. K. Honiblow). who supported the purchase of the piano, to also resign. This the lalier promised lo do if Mr. M'Miir. ray would hand him a petition '-igned by ,50 householders calling upon him lo do so. Such a petition has now been received, and Mr. Honiblow inliinnies Hint his resignation will be handed lo Ihe commitlee at its next monthly meeling, bill prior to that he will addre.-s a public meeting concerning the petition .and other matters in connection with school a flairs. The District Hospital Board lurs decided, subject to (.he approval nf the Department, to call lenders for Ihe creel ion of-a doctor's residence at Palmerslon Norlli. Sketch plans of the proposed buildings were submitted to tlie board, and it: was estimated that the structure w»iild cost £IROO. The Hospital Board, at its last meeting, decided to retain the inhaling npnaratus used at l'oxlon during the eoidemic. in case same were required l for future use. The other machines used in the district have been sent back to Wellington.
