TRANSPORT OF SOLDIERS
TROUBLE CAUSED BY THE TUBE STRIKES. (Rec. February 10, 7.25 p.m.) ' London, February 9. Bad weather in the Channel resulted in the accumulation of 11,000 soldiers who were returning to France. Many were compelled to walk across London owing to tho continuance of the tuho strikes.- Two hundred and fifty, failing to catch the military trains to the coast, became impatient and made a demonstration. Nine of the ringleader? were arrested. The War Office points out that five or six thousand-soldiers have passed backwards and forwards to France daily throughout the war without grumbling at inconvenience. It is now evident that an elaborated system of regulating the traffic is necessary, with hostel accommodation in London, supervised by officers, who should march the men to the stations, ensuring discipline.—Aue.-N.Z, Cable Assn.
