WELLINGTON V. COMBINED CLUBS. Every year the Wellington Club—the parent Bowling Club of Wellingtonplays the representatives of all other city and suburban clubs, and the fixlure is rightly regarded as one of the events of the season. This match has now been played "for fifteen seasons in succession, and it is a remarkable achievement that on no occasion has the Wellington Club been defeated. It should be understood that the rinks sent to the Wellington green in connection with the fixture are not intended io bo tho best representative players of tho various clubs. They are, a.s a rule, official rinks, and represent as a general rule a fair average quality of play. The annual match took place on Saturday afternoon in fine but somewhat blustering weather, when fourteen of the city and suburban clubs tried conclusions with the mother club, and were rather badly worsted, the Wellington Club's representatives scoring 3C>O points to the Combined Clubs' illi. An effort is being made to organise a big chess rally at Mnsterton at. Easter. A young man employed at the Masterton Borough Council's new sewage »arm was badly crushed last week by a fall of earth. He was taken to tho hospital. ' Tho Opaki Rifle Club held i trophy shoot last week. Messrs. J. E. Calwell ami R. J. King wero top scorers, with 77 points each. The appointments to tho Wairarapa Local Repatriation Committee have not yet; been made. At an evening run in connection with the Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club, held last week, D. Davey won tho 880 yds. handicap, F. Kilminster the 120 yds. handicap, and R. Oakley the ouo mile- cycle handicap. At the annual meeting of the Masterton Lawn Tennis Club, Monsignor M'Kenna was elected president, and Mr. H. M. Boddington honorary secretary and treasurer. The question of procuring a larger area, for further courts, was referred to the new committee for a report. It was decided to leinstitute the club laddes games. In a Booth Cup bowling match, played last week. Masterton "A" defeated Masterton "B" by 43 points. A rink from the Masterton Club leaves next week for Rotorua. Although recommendations have been made by the Masterton Chamber of Commerce, Labour Party, Farmers' Union, Returned Soldiers' Association, and Patriotic Association, no appointment to tho local Repatriation Committee lias yet been made, nor has information been received as to who is to make the appointment. Apparently the Wnirarapa local committee will consist of five or six members, with headquarters in 31nstorton. The appointment of a local secretary has not yet been definitely settled. Four Pabiatua fishermen took over forty eels from the Mansratainoka River the other night in less than two hours. Quite a numta' of people in Musterton are complaining of p. throat trouble that appears foreign to the medical fraternity. According to counsel in a case heard in the Magistrate's Court at Jbislevion last week gambling is very rife in Masterton. One man in nueslion was said (o have gambled half bi.s wages practif.illy every week. In a Booth Cup bowling fixture played at Featherston last week Hie home rinks were, successful by 77 points to 51. The question of a memorial to "our boys" was also discussed, and a committee set up to try and secure O'Connor's Hush for that, purpose, or such other proposition as the committee may think best.
