» NORTH OTAGO URGES ACTION. By Telegraph-Press Association, Oamaru. February 8. A largely-attended public meeting representative of the town, and country districts of North Otago was held to-day to discuss hydro-electric, development, particularly, as affecting the South Island. Local M.P.'s and visitors, from 'neighbouring districts were the principal speakers. It was finally decided: "That tins meeting of North Otago residents, realising the importance of obtaining ample supplies of electricity for industries and commercial an* domestic purposes for the wJiolo district, resolves to take all the necessary steps to urjre the Government to complete, a hydro-electric scheme for the Dominion in general, and this district in particular." A committee of twelve members equally representative of town and country, • with the membere for Oamar'u and Waitnki, the' mayor-? of Oamaru and Hompden, and the chairman of the !Waitaki County Council as lnnnbers rx-officio, was set up. The meeting enthusiastically supported the 'demand for a 'hydroelectric scheme for the South Island, -with a powerful central station in Otago.
