POPULAR MUSICAL COMEDY EE- • VIEWED. "You're in Love," a musical comedy in two acts. Cast :— . ® ■ Aloyalua Alfred Frith Lacey Hart Fred Maguire Judge Brewster ......... Harry B. Bnrcher Captain Bulwinklo Harry Wottoa Bill Blake ...;. Jack Hooker Jim Jferrity Tom Preston .Porcy Pinklove . ; Field Fisher Hobby Douglas William Greene Gcorgiana Cecil Bradley Dorothy ...... ;..i Oracle Layers Hilda V.:.... Madge Elliott Joaie ; Dorothy Purdell Mrs. Payton Maud Beatty It is ,only, a year, ago since we were made to feel young and blushful by witnessing that .cheerful and ultra-frivolous musical comedy "You're in Love," which was revived by the Williamson Comedy .Company, at the Grand Opera House last evening before; an audience that filled every seat, in. the theatre.- The midsummer madness which characterises this musical irresponsibility needs no excuse. is, after all, however much one may deplore the' fact,'only an exaggerated reflection of the modern methods vagariously'pursued in the chase after that "blue bird/' happiness. Its intellectual elevation may bo judged by the boom incident, in which a pretty girl, perched ii. a spotlight'at the end of a mobile derrick, ■ invites' the giddy-minded males iiy the stalls to snatch at her -shoes as she floats tantalisingly over their heads, Nevertheless, there are comic lines and catchy lilts to amfuso and tickle in plenty in "You're in Love," and there is not the slightest doubt as to the popularity of the piece with the Audience. . • When i last-.played..in Wellington 'Miss • •Maud. Fane-was Georgiana, the girl of the booin and .the silk pyjamas. Miss Fane being otherwise engaged in Australia, the role was" played last evening by Miss Cecil Bradley, who acquitted herself, well. The only evidence of uneasiness displayed by the actress was ' during the boom episode, when in their enthusiasm the . shoe-snatchers almost pulled Miss, Bradley from her insecure ' . Both shoes were well caught last evening, .Miss'Gracie Lavers, port arid pleasing, figured sweetly as Dorothy, and Miss _ Maude Bentty succeeds ' Miss Connie Ediss as Mrs. Payton, and leaves the impression made by the last-mentioned artist* undisturbed. Mr. Ayilliam Greene was again "fPP'ly cast as Hobby Douglas, and Air. I'red.'' Maguire was dapper and bright »s Lacoy Hart, but, has a faulty voice production to struggle against in the song which conveys the leit motif of the score. Mr. Alfred Frith ■is again extremely amusing "as Aloyeius Wix, and Mr. Fieljl Fisher, who always Contrives to be so delightfully* different.in his comedy character creations, gave solid satisfaction throughout in the W. W: Jacobs role. of,.Percy Pinklove, boatswain of the yacht' High" Hope, the deck of whicn ; provides-., the second-act scene. Miss Madge Elliott, .the premiere danseuse of ,tho company, has personal charms which ensure .popularity. She figures as the central figure in a "Hula Hula" ballet, and has a clever dance with Mr, Jack 1 Hooker. The latter ,'dancer, with Mr. lom? Preston;' made a hit in a comio clog (Lance on the slats. The stage swarms • with pretty girls in up-to-tlie-liioment..confections, and tho various ballets, devised by Miss Minnie Everett, of beauty jn effervescence. win Love" will played again I.ns-■evening,- when the season will con--1 elude.. It will interest theatregoers to know that there are.excellent chances of a return season'at a later date, when tiomg-Up' will be. revived.
