The Poverty Bay and the Taumariinui meetings are set down for Saturday. Nominations are due to-day for the Hamilton,-Rotorua, and Akaroamectings. Torday- the Poverty Bay acceptances are due, to-morrow, acceptances close for Dunediti and,To Kuiti, and on Saturday acceptances are to be made for the -figment meeting. .One of the .great, events of the racing year is to.be. run, at New Plymouth today—the meeting between Gloaming and Desert Gold. That people have-gone from all parts of New. Zealand to see the raco i 3 evidejije that- the sporting public follow racing largely through, love of sport itself,. for .no one can suggest that the long journey 'to tho Taranaki capital would be undertaken- with a. view to making money. It is .reported .that. Mr. .1.. Cameron, formerly a" well-known rider and trainer, has been'appointed to act as judge for the Raiigitilvoi Racing Club. ' In a gallop at'Riccarton the Dunedin Cup candidate Heathercpte was. easily too good for Onslaught at. tho business end of a mile in lmin. U 3-ssec. Glcndower, one of the fancied division for the Dunedin Cup, was noticed to be slightly, lame, behind a few days ago. • Lady General was galloped on during tho Pahiatuh meeting, but it is expected that she will.be a runner at Wangauui. Starland,' a . two-year-old by Nassau from Stardancor. has tan purchased by Sir. G. L. Stead.
