FLOODS IN THE SOUTH
o POSITION MUCH IMPROVED. By Tclcjrrann.—Press Association. Dunedin, February 2. The situation regarding the floods is more'hopeful, though the Railway Department will probably bif unable to resume running southern trains beyond Allanton to-morrow. Accounts from Central Otago are cheering. Alexandra reports that notwithstanding heavy rain the River Molyneux is falling. . Cromwell reports that a spell of settled weather is at hand, and the rivers are falling steadily from the recent high flood level. As a result of the week s floods, the Kaitangata, Warauui, Taratu, and Nightcaps coal supplies are cut off as far as the city is concerned.
