PEACE DAY
PETONE CELEBRATIONS. A meeting of tho Petono Peace Celebra. tion Committee was held in the Council Chamber on Thursday evening. His Worship the Mayor presided. Communications were received from the E.A., Order of Buffaloed, Oddfellows' Lodge, and Foresters appointing delegates to the meeting, and promising to assist all they could with the procession. The secretary reported: (1) That tho Gear Company intended to crectan arch across Jackson Street, opposite their shop; (2) tliat tho N.Z. Picture Supplies, Ltd.,' had agreed to erect and illuminate an arch across the street opposite tho Grand Theatre; (3) that the Woollen Mills had been asked to arrange for the erection of an arch of Allied flags across Jackson Street; (4) that forty flagpoles had been secured to' carry, an avenue of flags along Jackson Street; (5) that arrangements had been made to have the municipal buildings illuminated. The secretary also reported that ho had aslted the Hon. T. M. Wilford to secure some captured German guns for use in the procession, and Mr. Wilford had replied that he had secured five, to be divided between Petone and Lower Hutt. Messrs. Kirlnvood, Blvth, Wray, P. Taylor, M'.Tenkins, Pointon, and Cowie were appointed a committee to "Superintend the decorations in Jackson Street and on the Recreation Ground. Messrs. 1,. Parrant; H. Rose, W. Cox, Kearney, Campbell, and W. AVcarne wero appointed a Procession Committee. It was decided to ask Messrs. Parrant, Filth, and Eades to assist, with''{lie formation of a gazoo band, and to ask Mr. Cliff Ramsden to arrange for a choir of mill employees to assist in entertaining the public m a musical way. The suggestion. was made that part of the celebration sho.uld take the form or a military display, and that Cagtain Hardham, V.C., should be asked to lead the men. The Mayor undertook to endeavour to secure the services of Captain Hardham, and to arrange a meeting of returned men. '. It was also decided to -endeavour to arrange for a Maori display in the procession, and the secretary was. instructed to writo to Mr. Love in reference to the matter. The secretary was instructed to write the local Order of Druids and ask them if they would put on the tableau "Britannia" for the procession.
A Moiilrcal bank has been held by the court to .be blameless for looses growing out of Sdvice given tp .m investor by the manager of its investment department.
