MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE CASES. Before Mr. W. G. Biddell, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court yesterday Esther Collier was charged with being an idle and disorderly person in that ene. habitually consorted with reputed thieves. She was further charged with using obscene language in Holland Street. On the question as to whether eho preferred to be dealt with summarily or tried by a jury accused made no reply, so His Worship remarked: "Remanded till she makes up her mind—till to-morrow." Anabella Swanson was charged with being an idle and disorderly person and with supplying intoxicating liquor to Esther Collier, a prohibited peison. Swanson was remanded till to-day. _ ' A remand till Monday wae made in the case in which Theodore Allbrand was charged with failing to provide his wife with adequate maintenance. The accused was arrested on warrant at Palmerston North, and desired to engage counsel. * CLAIM FOR POSSESSION. Reserved judgment was delivered by Mr. W. G. Biddell, S.M., in the case in which Henry Hooper, land agent, soughtto recover the possession of certain premises on Lambton Quay, together with mesne profits at the rate of £\ per diem, from Bruce Howe, hosier and haberdasher. In nonsuiting the plaiutilf His Worship said that plaintiff had cccepted rent for a period subsequent, to the expiry of a notice to quit, wiiich he had given the defendant. With _ reference to tho point as to jurisdiction, (lie Magistrate considered that though the question of title might bo involved now it was not, in his opinion, dirwtly in issue at the time the summons was issued. He therefore overruled that point. Costs amounting to £2 2s. were allowed the defendant. Mr. M. F. Luckie. appeared for fcho defendant, Mr. G. Hutchinson for the plaintiff, and Mr. A. W. JUDGMENT SUMMONS. In judgment summons cases To Knronclio was ordered to pay William Farquhar Eggers the sum of «£l2 155., by instalments of ,£2 per month, in default to bo imprisoned to' ten days; and Alexander M'lvonzie is to pay Charles, Edward Aidride .Csi 19s. fid., by February 13, or bo detained in the Wangaiiui Gaol for twenty-eight days.
