Gntliric, Minuter of Lands, motored from Christchurch to Fairhe He visited the soldiers' settlement at Clayton, and received a deputation there, which suggested the purchase of, the remainder of Clayton for soldiers. . It was intimated tbat the owner was willing to negotiate if the lnnd was needed for soldiers. A deputation at iairlie recommended the purchase of 300 acres (three farms), rear Fairlie for 11? s . ettlenlftnt - The Minister inspected the land this morning and considered the request sympathetically. Another deputation urged that one or two runs in t/ie Mackenzie Country, whose lenses aro nearly up, ehould be disposed of in small runs. This morning M.r. Guthrie inspected the Crieklewood soldier settlement, and save the MiKinecr a note to report on the possibility of gettin*- a water-supply. Tho Minister wns to iiavo gone to the Hermitage to-dny, but i\s the road possibly was impassable, owir" to the storm, and the roads to AA'estern and North Otago worse, he returned to ■Urnaru to-day and went on to Dunedin
