Jfailler and Quereau's lalett report, received in Sydney, says:—"AVo can see no hope for the release of much steam tonnage for general business until the renuircments of Europe and the return of our troope have been fully met. So far as Australia and New Zealand aro concerned, wo fear it will be some time before steamers cau be procured to load for the various ports, and shippers will havo to be entirely dependent upon sailing vessels tonnage for the carriage of their merchandise. The- position so far as Australia, is concerned has been rather better in other directions, for to South America and. to South A.frica. the tonnage lias been very limited, nnd there are larce accumulations of freight awaiting , shipment. This is a fairly large amount of sailing -vessel tonnage, and shculd care for the freight offerings that nro now .nrensing. The total cool output at AVcetnort for tho month of December wae 3.1.299 tons, nnd the total Quantity exported during the month was 34,498 tons (states an exchange).
