INDIGNANT WHEAT GROWERS

At-a meeting of the North Canterbury Farmers' Union to-day oonsiderahle indignation was expressed at the alleged action of the Government in breaking its promise to pay os. 4d. per ■bushel for this season's wheat and allow a free market. It was pointed out that many farmers had gro.vn wheat who ■would-not, otherwise have done so owing:to the promise 'Of :v free market.The:ppinion also was expressed that the promise, as to next season's <rop was, like piecrust, made to be brnton. Mr. G. "W. Lill suggested that nil branches should be communicated with 'to see if they would disregnrd the Government's prices J, in.; fact, defy and declare war on the Government: Mr. Sheat:.A bit of Bolshevism, eh! It"'was eventually decided that the Government,be requested, to observe its agreement with farmers.
