LOCO ENGINEERS AND FIREMEN
DELEGATES TO THE CONFERENCE
The genera] secretary of the ■ NewZealand Engineers, Fire-, men, and Cleaners' Association (Mr. W. M'Arlcy) states that the following' delegates will/attend the conference to be held in their head office, Wellington, on February ' s:—Messrs. A. Lees (Christclnircli), R. A. Walker (Invercargill, W. G. Eobb (Greymouth), M. Denehy (Wellington), P. G. Lcwin (Palmerstoii), A. W. Mack (New Plymouth), G. Horgaii (Taihape).' T. D. Luston (Friuikton), J. Nelson (Auckland) ; Dunedin elected Mr. J. D. Robertson; E. W. Henderson (president). Tim conference is., the result of a demand from branches for the organisation to take more militant action towards getting a more favourable heari|"K for their demands for improved wages and conditions.
This is -the only reason for' the attendance of the delegates in Wellington this year, as their ordinary meeting -is held in 1920. The delegates will be asked to give consideration to the proposals which the Minister lias indicated that he will be prepared to submit to, the association after the delegates' meeting. However, the machinery for giving effect to a strike will be considered prior to meeting the Minister. Any suggestions for improving the wages, etc., of the locomotive men will ,be carefully considered, and thereafter presented to the members for their nnal decision. ,
