FRENCH MISSION

LEAVING FOR HOME TO-DAY.

General Pau, head of the French Mission, returned from Dunedin yesterday. In the' evening.the members of the mission were entertained at dinner by the Government, the function being held in' Bellamy's, Parliament Buildings. The invitation list had to be a small one owing to lack of accommodation. To-day the mission will leave for Auckland to joiirtlie Makura.

UNABLE TO VISIT INVERCARGILL

General Pan sent the following letter to the Mayor of Invercargill: "I regret exceedingly that it has not been possible for us to accept your kind invitation to visit your city. Although my stay in Dunedin has been much longer than was originally planned, I have been under a doctor's care and have not been permitted to. fro further afield. I.have heard glowing accounts of the of Invercargill and of the noble patriotic ijorlc that has been carried out by the various organisations' there, and am sorry, indeed that we are not afforded an opportunity of paying you a visit. In the name of the mission and. in the name of France I congratulate and thank the citizens of Invercargill for their sacrifices in the interests of humanity and justice during the great war."
