RESUMPTION OF RACING
WAR RESTRICTIONS WITHDRAWN BUT NO TRAINS PROMISED. The Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. G. W. Russell) telegraphed yesterday to Sir George Clifford, president of the Racing Conference, and Mr. JHowe, president of the Trotting Conference, that Cabinet had decided that from and after February 1 racing might be resumed oh the pre-war scale throughout the Dominion.
The Government. had decided that the war being over, and racing having been resumed in Great Britain, there was no need for (he continuance of the reduction of one-third imcosed during ■/ the war time.
In making the intimation, the Minister informed the gentlemen named that the Government could give no guarantee that race trains would be provided on the pre-war scale, the reason being that the railways were still short staffed, and that there was a'lack of coal.
