CAPTAIN SEDDON'S RETURN
HIS VISIT TO AMERIOi. By TeleEranh-Preos Assoolatlon, Auckland, January 21. Captain T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P., re-, turned by the Ruahino yesterday. Interviewed regarding his visit to Amevica, Captain Seddon said: "After speaking in New Jersey State ior war sav- . ings stamps, I was put on to work with the United States Shipping Board. I spoke at Brooklyn shipping yards, Hog Island, Philadelphia, and on Jvd.v 4 at New York shipbuilding yards, Philadelphia. From there I was transferred to Chicago, and spoke at monster meetings of.workers for the Government. In Michigan, Wisconsin, lowa, Indiana, and Nebraska most of -the meetings were outdoor gatherings, and after 1 singing- 'America' the men took the oath of loyalty to the President of the United States. It was a very remarkable sight to look at thousands of upturned faces and hands of men held up as they swore their allegiance. After I had finished with the ..Shipping Board I Was with the National Security League, the president being Dr. Proston, of Princetown University. I followed Major Beith (lan Hay), visiting: and addressing gatherings at North Dakota, Minnesota, and from there went on to the Pacifio Coast, where 'I was speaking for the Fourth Liberty Loan in the States of Washington,.' Oregon, and California. Tn the middle West and West I found that a very keen desire existed to learn everything possible about the colonies. The people thero seem to be very wall disposed towards, us. It would be a matter worthy, of consideration . of the Government whether trade could not be encouraged there with New Zealand. In various chambers of commerce of the Western States there was .an earnest desire manifested to create the friendliest re-; lationships with us. It seems to me that noW is the time for those interested in trade to open up in tho Western States."
