ELECTION OF OFFICERS. By Telegraph—Press Xssociation. Qunedin, January 18. At tho Railway Officers' Institute Conference to-day Mr. Young was reelected president; Messrs. A. W. Hutcliins, M. Denuiliy, H. Thonins, G. JMitlhewson, nnd \L Uaeey, vice-presi-dents; J[r. F. Snow, treasurer; Messrs. Denniliy, F. Cruia, and J. Robertson representatives on the State; Service Association. A resolution was passed expressing the opinion that the .time hud arrived when full civil and political rights should he extencled to all persons in the employ of tho State. The conference will bo finished to-night.
Mr. C. Branignn, Government Fields Inspector, Ashburton, who lias madeinvestigations regarding tho disease in tho wheat crops in the country, states that the disease is prevalent in most parts of the district, but only in isolated instances i« it in an intensified form. .What further developments would tako place before tho crops wore cut ho was not prepared to state. -Hessian fly is attacking the wheat crops in the Lyniiford district.
