Chaplain J. K. Archer, lato of Tauherenikau Camp, has accepted a unanimous call from tho Sydenham Baptist Church, and will commence his ministry on February 2. . ■ .
Mr. AY'.' H. Skinner, Commissioner, of Crown Lands for Canterbury, has placed his resignation in the hands of the Minister of Lands, and it will, take effect on April 3 next. ■ Mr. Skinner has been in tlio Public Service for close on forty-seven years. He .joined the Public Service as a cadet in the Lauds and Survey Office, under the Taranaki Provincial Government. After 'serving for four years as a cadet, he was appointed assistant-surveyor for Taranaki, a position which he held for twelve yeare. From 1888 to 1911 he held various positions, including those of inspecting officer, office surveyor, land transfer draughtsman, and general draughtsman. Mr. Skinner was in 1911 ap- j pointed Crown Lauds Commissioner and Chief Surveyor for Marlborough, which position lie held till 1914, when he wasf transferred in a similar capacity to Hawko's Bay. In 19i6 he took up similar positions in Canterbury.
Mr. and Mrs, W. Fix, Ghuznee Street, have been advised that their son, Sergeant W. Fix, New Zealand Engineers, and lately with the Tank Corp, has been awarded the- Military Medal for gallantry in action. Sergeant Fix, joined 'tlio Main Body in 1914, and is now 21 years of age.
Mr. J. 0. Williamson, who has beon chief postmaster at Auokland . for several years, has arrived in Wellington to take up the , duties of Chief Post and Telegraph' Inspector in succes-non to Mr. R, B. Morris, recently appointed Assistant-Secretary of the Department.
A Press Association message from Uhristcliurch announces the death of Miss Elizabeth Agnes Thaoker, at the ape of 68. Deceased, who was ii sister of Dr.,Thacker, M.P,, was the first white child born in Christchurch after tho arrival of the Canterbury Pilgrims.

Mr. D. Ralston, secretary to Mr. R. Gf. Cowlishaw, shipowner, of "Sydney, yesterday arrived at Wellington .by the steamer Swallow , , to 'arrange affairs for several trips that the Swallow is to' make in the intercolonial service.
Mr. Carwell Cooke was taken to the Davis Street hospital on Saturday evening to undergo an operation for appendicitis. Last report he was reported to be progressing satisfactorily.
