FARMERS' UNION
WELLINGTON BRANCH. A largely-attended meeting of local farmers was held yesterday in the Doniihion Farmers' Institute. Representatives were present from branches at -Pahautanui, Upper Hntii, MakaraOhariu, and AVainui-o-mata. Mr. A. ■ Leigh Hunt, general manager of the Xew Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Distributing Co., Ltd., presided. It was decided to form a • Wellington Central branch, consisting of ar.i •affiliation, of the above existing brandies and others to,be formed. : The new branch commences its career with a membership of 115 members'. . Monthly meet-; ings of the branch will be held in AVelr lington, and general meetings every three months. . , ' '.'" ■
The following resolutions were parsed:— ' . '
"That, recognising the vital importance of an early supply of hyd-hi-clectrical power, the executive bo nrgod to press the need for an early star); on tho preliminary, works."
"That this meeting accords its hqajrty. support to Hie passing of a Town Planning Act, providir.c for town plniiriing in its widest sense with provision'for tho laying out on modern lines of village settlements in rural districts/" : "Tbat this meeting strongly opposes any further issue of war loans.' I'rco of income tax."
"That this meeting places niv record its dfop regret on the dpiitW of Mr. J. &'. Bcr.iictt. who organised '//in farmers in the several districts, and who, bv his sterliii;:" fharacter sir/1 enthusiasm, earned their rogxid aiAfl respect,and .that condolence's be selit to Iris relatives."
