The Hon. T. M. Wilford has returned to Wellington after an extensive tour of the South Island.
Sir F. T. Boys, K.8.E., on whom the order was recently conferred, was for several years connected with the nianageinent of the Ocean Beach Freezing Works at Bluff: He wae eubsequently appointed manager of one of the Christchurch Meat Company's works in Canterbury, and was later transferred to London ns the company's manager in the metropolis. When the Imperial Government requisitioned the Dominion's meat supplies, Mr. Boys was appointed a director. Lady Boys is a sister of Lajly Ward. Cable advice dated January 3 has been received by Base Records • office from overseas, stating that Major W. Pharazyn has been awarded the Military Cross for gallantry in the field of action. As Major Pharazyn is not a member of the N.Z.E.F., his next-of-kin is not known at Base Records office. Mr. J. M. Coradine, who has been Mayor of Masterton for the last nine years, ha.s, says our Masterton correspondent, intimated that he does not intend offering himself for re-election. Councillor W. J. Welch has been reelected chairman of the Masterton County Council. The death occurred «t Auckland on Tuesday of Dr. G. E. Deamer. Dr. Deamer took the epjdemic severiy, and has been seriously ill ever since. He was a son of the late Dr. Doamer, an old resident of Christclmfch. On Monday evening last the residents of Hawera assembled in the Borough Chambers, where the Mayor made a' presentation to Dr. J. B. MacDiarmid, who rendered valuable service to the community during the recent epidemic. . Mr. W. Cliegwidden, inspector of stores of the Post and Telegraph Department, has retired 1 on superannuation after forty years'- service. At a representative gathering of officers of tho accountants' branch, to .which he was attached, his departure was made the occasion of a presentation, to show esteem . of an officer so long connected with the service. The presentation was made by Mr. H. A. Huggins, controller, who congratulated Mr. Chogwidden upon his long, faithful, and meritorious service, laying particular stress upon his zeal and capability, and wishing him twi'-Mrs: Cliegwidden many years of happiness in which to enjoy his well-earned 1 pension.
