Dannevirke Borough' Councillors last evening expressed sonjo candid opinions on the Health Department in connection with the- influenza epidemic. Dannevirke was fairjv hard hit, and the council decided to support otjier local bodies in any action they might tako to have the Dppartment and its'methods reformed. • ' Councillor Thomson considered tho Department had been very much at fault in not taking practical measure's to meet the situation. Had precautionary measures lieon' taken lie. Relieved many people who had lost their lives here would never.'have died; This wns a serious statement, but he thought it deserved.
Councillor J. Drummond said the Deportment had failed in its efforts, and deserved the _ censure of pegpje of the whole Dominion. The officers of the Department should bo shifted from their iobs. Any body of scientific men caught napping were not worthy to hold sufch important positions.
