GEORGETTE ARRIVES
TOWED INTO POET BY STELLA
Doubts which were entertained as to tho safety of the Anioricaii schooner Georgette, b.O days out from San Francisco, were set at rost yesterday ovening, when tho vessel arrived in Wellington Jlarliour in tow of tho small steamer Stelln. The Georgette was picked up by the Stella 25 miles from Wellington Heads, when Captain Hamilton, of the Stella, received a hail by megaphone from tho Georgette's master, Captain Johnston, asking him-to tow the shin into port. A lino was passed to tlio Stella and the vessels arrived in the stream at twenty minutes to six last evening. The GeocgetLe, a new wooden vessel of 707 ions, on her lirst trip—she is just off the stoclts—left San Francisco on October 18. I" fair weather on Saturday morning, December 14, she was sighted at Beacon .Hill Signnl'Station, when slio was about ten miles off the Heads. A strong westerly gale developed early in- t)ie afternoon of that day, when she was off the entrance, and she was carried away before it. A few days after the schooner disappeared off the Heads there was a favourable southerly wind of four days' duration, but as she failed to turn up fears for her safety were entertained. The vessel anchored in the stream on _ arrival, hut she will berth this morning, when details as to her experiences will be available. The Georgette is a vessel 0f.70" tons, j owned by Messrs. M'Nair.and Co., San | Francisco. She ie commanded by Captain Johnston (who is accompanied by his wifeV ar.d carries a crew of about 13. Her cargo is one of general merchandise, including case oil. She was light-loaded when she left San Francisco. Messrs. A. S. Paterson are the local agents for the vessel.
