GERMAN PRISONERS TO BE REPATRIATED
ARRANGEMENTS NOW BEING MADE
Arrangements are now being made for the repatriation of Germans who hare been held in the internment camps in New Zealnnd during the war period. About a hundred of these men are to leave the Dominion for the United Kingdom, on route to their native country, iiV the near future. A guard has already been chosen. • . The prisoners who are to be repatriated, include the naval officers and men held as prisoners of war and eonie civilian internees who have expressed a wish to be allowed to return to-their own country. Exactly how many of the-Germans now in the internment camps can be 6ent away before the declaration of peace is , not "known yet. i Some of the enemy aliens, who were'in business in New Zealand before' the war, have no wish to return to their own country, and their fate will, be decided at the Peace Conference.
The guard has been chosen from among returned soldiers with active, service experience. Bach district was allowed to supply a proportion of the men, and the applications were ■ substantially in excess of requirements. The men cliosen ware required to'be fit and to possess a good military record. :
