Outstanding features of the' vital statistics for the city of Auckland for last year are the great increase in the number of deaths and the falling in the number of births, as compared with tho pre■vious year.' A substantial decrease in the number of marriages is .also recorded. Tho deaths last year totalled 2386, as against 1428-in 1917, an increase of-958. The extent to which the epidemic was responsible for this is plainly 1 shown_ in the figures for November and December, the deaths' in months, numbering 964 and 239, as compared with 118 and 137 in the previous year. i Tho decrease in births is 303, tho ' numbers being 2875 for 1918 and 3178 for •1917.
