THE GUN-SHY FLEET
FRUITLESS ATTEMPTS TO LURE THE' GERMANS OUT. (Rec, December 29, 5.5 p.m.) New Ydrk, December 27. Admiral Redman, interviewed, said that the co-operation between the United: States squadron and the British fleet was of the heartiest and closest description. Sir David Beatty was a wonderful man, of great ability. . British admirals sometimes controlled tho American squadron. At other times ho (Admiral Redman) controlled British units. No friction occurred throughout all the operations. Frequent attempts were made to induce tho German fleet to come out, but always without result. Occasionally weak forces .were sent to the German coast, and other devices were adopted to lure the enemy forth, but he never showed outside his minefields. A favourite lure was to dispatch valuable convoys, apparently unprotected.—Aus.K.Z. Cable Assn. .
