M. Wilford is at Timaru, and the Hon. D. H. Guthrie is at his home at Feilding. A Press Association telegram from Oomaru announces the death of Mir. Alfred Crawley Stubhs, manager of tha Union Ba.i&. The late Mr. Stutobs was 45 years of age. Our Masterton correspondent telegraphs that the death occurred early yesterday I morning of Mr. James Mncara, who was for many yem's engaged in the coaching business in tho Wairarapa, but had latterly been living in retirement. The deceased, who was in his SOth year, went to the Wairarapa'over 50 years ago. Ho was well known in sporting circles, and owned a number of racehorses. At th« time of his death he was vice-president of the Masterton Racing Club. Mr. William Arthur Speight, who joined the Colonial Sugar Refining Company's chemistry staff.2s years ago, anil became manager of the company's experimental nurseries at 13a, Fiji, died there a few days ago, aged 43. Deceased, who was the second son of Mr. W. J. Speight, for many years manager of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Government Insurance Department, was born in Auckland, and after a brilliant scholastic, career he became a school teacher, subsequently entering the Sugar Company's service. Captain D. M'Lean, who was in command of a hospital ship, has recovered uiifficiently from the effects of a recent operation to bo able to return to his home. Owing to illness Mr. W. C. Cooper, of Karon, the president of the Wellington Bowling Centre, was unable to lie present at or take part in the annual tournament which commenced yesterday.
