A remand' to December 31 was granted on the - application of Chief Detective Bodham la the:case of Thomas Perry, a' steward charged with stealing a gold and diamond ring valued at. Jl2o, the property of John Collins; Bail was allowed in ,£l5O and one smety of JGISO. Eor insobriety four first offenders were each fined 55., in default 24 hours' imprisonment, three others who failed to appear wore fined 10s. each, the amount of bail deposited, and one other was convicted and discharged. John O'Sullivan, with one previous conviction, was fined 55., with the option of , 21 hours' imprisonment, Jeremiah M'Carthy and Grace Richardson, both second offenders, wero eaoh fined 10s., with the alternative of 48 hours' imprisonment. George Harley was fined 405,,. in default 6even days' imprisonment for committing a breach of his prohibition order, and was convicted and. discharged for drunkenness. , For assaulting Constable W. Brown while in the execution of his duty, Robert Joyce was fined .£3, with tho option of serving fourteen days in gaol, and /for being found drunk he was fined 55., ■" with the alternative of 24 hours' imprisonment. For using insulting language with intent to create a breach of the peaco , Owen Collins was fined £5. " Joseph Smith, convicted of stealing some timber from' the s.s. Devon, valued at 3s. Gd., was find £1, in default seven 'days' .imprisonment.,
