A HERO HONOURED

LIEUTENANT BASSETT, V.C. By Telcsrapli-Presa Association. Auckland, December 25. A civic reception tendered Lieutenant Cyril Bassett, V.C., at the Town Hal! last night was one of the most enthusiastic gatherings ever held in Auckland. The Hon. A. SI. Myers -was among the speakers. On "behalf of the Government he extended to Lientenant Bassett a welcome homo. In replying, Lieutenant Bassett said that ho considered himself lucky to imvo gained that which so many had earned. Thousands of men had performed great deeds which had never been seen. Lieutenant Bassett was presented with an address from old boys of the Auckland Grammar School.
