SOLDIERS AS VIGNERONS

A MINISTER'S OBJECTIONS. Emphatic opposition to the encouragement of the wine industry was voiced by the New South Wales Minister of Agriculture (Mt. Grahame) some days ago, when a deputation representative of the New South AVales Wine Association waited upon him to discuss the new Wino Bill, which has as its ohject the separation of the wine industry from general liquor legislation, allowing the vine industry to stand on its own merits., Ino deputation asked that the industry be encouraged and safeguarded, as it would provide a readv means of supplying a large proportion of the, 17,000 farms required for returned soldiers. Mr. Grahame replied: "Personally, t would rather see a soldier go without a farm than that he should receive one for making wino. 1 think this country can well provide for its soldiers, and is quite able to redeem'its'promises without pushing its soldiers into wine-grow-ing. As a 'wowser' who holds very strong opinions, I repeat that I believe it would be better for the world if. there was no liquor." ;
