Wallis were urgent at the monthly meetins of the. Welling' ton Harbour Board held last evening. Tho statement of- finance showed thai: the current account credit stood at &H. 438 ss. 3d.: the imprest account was '.£2710 2s. Bd. The payments were: For 'accounts and wages, ,£30,870 17s. 2d.; 6nlaries for December, -CIOM Is. Z<l. The chairman said that the Wharves and Accounts Committee lind visited tho building nn the northern side of the en- ' trance with a view of providing better offioo accommodation for tho accountant's staff. The building was quito suitable, but it needed considerable alteration. The acting-engineer had been instructed to prepare a plan, but owing to'tho pressuro ''of work he had been unable to completo jt.' The offico of the Harbourmaster was Hot suitably accommodated He should be given offices more in accord with tlio idignity of his office and the port. The proposed alterations (which would provide :a lift as a means of access to the offices above) would cost about .£SOOO. He asked the permission of the board to go on .with tho preparation of the scheme. Several members of the board approved She proposed alterations. Mr. .T. G. Harkness said that the alterations were only an expedient to tid<s them over until a bigger scheme waa adopted. He <lidn6t think that tho room How being provided would be adequate a few years honce. Mx. W. Hildreth said that the space proposed to be occupied by offices was formerly used for displaying wool, and 'was not now needed for that p'trpose. There were 11,000 ft. on the floor. Mr. M'Ewnn raised tho question of air Space, and was pacified with the irformation that there would be 5000 oabio feot for each member of tho staff. The chairman's motion that tho scheme h> approved and gone on with was unanimously approved. The board gave its consent -.o the transfer of. iv boat skid license (bnlena Bay) from Mr. ,1. O. Shorland. to Mr. J. H. Barrett, and similarly a skid license , ' from ,T. H. Barrett to A. C. Scott. Approval was given to the proposal . thnt the Ixmrd's engineer 6hculd attend the annual meeting of the Now Zetland Society of Civil Engineers, which is to be held in Auckland in February.
