Polling in the by-elections for Wellington South and Palmcrston North will take place to-day. The polls will be open from 9 ara till 7 p.m. In Wellington South the candidates are Messrs. Mr Nash being the accredited candidate for the National Government. WELLINGTON SOUTH CONTEST MR. CASTLE ATBSRHAHPORE Mr John Castle addressed the last meeting of his campaign as a candidate lor Wellington South at .the Masonic Hall,' Berhampore, last night. There W as a. crowded audience and the people listened attentively to all that Mr. Castle ad to say. The candidate enunciated hie programme in the same form, as on previous occasions, and he talked a good leal besidce on other topics. He gave a good deal of attention to "Councillor Frost" and the Zoo. Mr. Castle 'had to submit to a good deal of banter, but it was for the most pnrt good humoured. -. THE LABOURJANDIDATE Mr K. Semple, Labour candidate for the Wellington South seat addressed hie final campaign meetings las night he Kimke first in Fullford s Hall, BiooKijn, and latefin the.Star Theatre, Newtown. There was a good attendance at each m Mr lU Soniple, who was supported by severa other speakers, i.ppeakd to the elector to vote for the principles laid down bv the Labour Party. He urged the workers to put aside all petty diucrencee and sectarian bitternesses and to join forces in order to build a new social order on the basis of national ownership* and national service. A vote of thanks and confidence was accorded Mr. Semple at each of his meetings. ■ MR. FROST_AT_BROOKLYN Mr. George Frost, "independent" candidate, last evening addressed a meeting in the Baptist Church Schoolroom at Brooklyn. Tho candidate was introduced bv Mr. Hopkirk. Mr Frost was accorded an attentive hearing, and interjections were fow, except from a very small section of tho audience, which did not appear to hnd much support. He announced, as on nrevious occasions, that, he belonged to no party, and wished to labour in the interests of humanity. He advocated re- : form in education, and tho ownership and settlement of the land. He also wished to see the hydro-electric power scheme nut into practice, partly because he satf in its development some solution ot tne 1 housing problem through increased ram- . way services Railway tariffs should bo reduced, and a comprehensive scheme of fown-olaiming set afoot in order to , eliminate slums. The ferry ssrvico should he nationalised, and run bv the Government in conjunction with the J;"'^ Mr Frost traversed practically all the matter ho had dealt with in his earlier speeches, and at the end of his address ' replied to a number of questions. ■ Mr. 'R.
