HTS RETIREMENT FROM THE WAR OFFICE. London, December 16. The "Daily Express" reports that General Smuts resigned from the War Cabinet because Uio war had ended. Genewl Smuts was offered, but declined, the Palestine command before General Alienby "'as appointed.—Aus.-iWZ.' Cable Assu. (Rec. December 17, 7.25 p.m.) London, December 16. General Smuts, in his letter to the Premier resigning from the War Cabinet, points out that tho appointment was''purely a war measure, ending with tho conclusion of hostilities.
