CONTROL OF CAPE DAISY
Cape Daisy or Capeweed (Cryptosteroma lendulaceum) has recently been deared a noxious weed by the counties of taiganui, Waitotara, and Patea. There ; not says Mr. J. W. Deem, Fields tpervisor, Wangamiw writing in the ■urnal of the Department of Agriculie, a great deal of the weed on the Tin lands in these -counties, it being :iefly_ confined to accommodation pad'cks and roadsides. On the other hand, ; is very bad in tho boroughs, of Wa;anui and Patoa. aud in the town disict of Waverley, but none of these' ree local bodies has declared it a fed - . Cape daisy is especfally fond of :oken land where the sole of-grass is lor and the surface gets broken with' ?ck tramping, but does not seem to ake much headway on lands holding od pasture. Dressings of any of the isonous weed-destroyers will kill it, but pbably the cheapest and most effective ty to deal with it is to cut it just under e surface with a, sharp implement. !'■ ;ve found a sharp narrow hoe very ef- : ptive. In chipping the weed every re should be taken to preserve the le of grass as much as possible. Disusing Cape daisy recently with the ayor of Patea, he stated that there was Jquently very little showing in a street (til the surfacemen werj put on to :an up the sides and remove the grass, ter which in a few weeks there was a lid growth of the weed. As mentionV there is not a great deal of Cape :isy on tho country lands, and with a Itle care it should be possiblo to consi it."
