LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
HON. GEORGE JONES AND EMERGENCY . HOSPITALS Sir,—ln common with many others, I was surprised at the charge against St. Anne's Convalescent Hospital implied m the question asked by the Hon. George Jones in the Legislative, Council. From the complete refutation promptly given by Sir -Francis Bell, Mr.' Jones may, or may aot, realise the imprudence of acting on second hand information. But that is'beside the mark. It is, however, curious why Mr. Jones, who says he had had information that men from other hospitals had been addicted to intemperance, should bestow all his solicitude on St. Anne's by name. I think, Sir, in justice and fairness Mr. Jones should publicly state the other hospitals where intemperance has been practised, for by his vague utterance he' has cast a suspicion on every convalescent home and its inmates. During this epidemic I have had the pleasure of witnessing wonderful heroism and charity amongst the voluntary workers, admirable tact and prudence displayed by the authorities in tne emergency hospitals and elsewhere, and an edifying spirit of patience and resignation by the unfortunate sufferers, and I am proud to be -able to believe that if Mr. Jones will name his suspicious in-, stations he -will find his charges as groundless as they were in St, Anne's. If he does notoare to do this would lie adopt the obviously gentlemanly course of, withdrawing his insinuations as publicly as he stated them.—l •am, etc, D. H. HURLEY, S.M.
