SHIPPING PROSPECTS. The fruit industry has suffered severely during the war owing to the lack or' shipping space. The war is over now, and tho possibility of the early resumption' of the trade is cpened. In tho House of Representatives yesterday Mn Hudson asked the Prime Minister whether he could give any indication as to -what space would be available for t|he export of fruit from New Zealand either by way of South America or by tho f'anama Canal route. , The Prime Minister' said that he thought that all the ships outward fiom New Zealand would go by the Panama Canal route, which shortened the voyage considerably. He understood the importance of the fruit industry, and he knew that if the industry was to be assisted more space would have to lie movidet! for fruit for export. He premised that he would do the best he could v. hen he met the Shinping Committee, and h" mentioned that the Shipping Committee was compo?ed,.of gentlemen who. were very favourable to New Zealand.
